    Code of Conduct

Establishing respectful, consent-based, and safe teaching practices.

    Scope of Practice

Defining the professional responsibilities of yoga teachers.

    Equity in Yoga:

Defining the professional responsibilities of yoga teachers.

By upholding these values, teachers contribute to a stronger, safer, and more ethical yoga community.

    Social Credentialing

    Elevating Yoga Education Through Feedback

Your experience as a teacher shapes the future of yoga education.

Yoga Alliance’s Social Credentialing system ensures transparency by requiring trainees to review their Registered Yoga School (RYS) training before applying for their Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) credential.

These reviews help maintain standards, guide prospective students, and support schools in refining their programs.

    How It Works

    • Who provides feedback? Every trainee who completes an RYS training must submit a review before registering as an RYT.
    • What is reviewed? Trainees evaluate curriculum accuracy, learning objectives, and Lead Teacher contact hours. They also rate their likelihood of recommending the program.
    • How is feedback used? Schools receive feedback and can choose to display certain comments publicly on their profile. Reviews contribute to the school’s Overall School Rating.

Where to See Social Credentialing in Action

    • Prospective students can view an RYS’s Overall School Rating in our school directory, helping them choose the right training program.
    • Registered Yoga Schools can access trainee feedback and choose to display additional details, such as training content ratings and comments, through their Yoga Alliance account.

    Understanding the Ratings

    • Overall School Rating: A 1-5 star rating is displayed publicly based on how likely trainees are to recommend the program.
    • Net Promoter Score (NPS): Measures trainee satisfaction, grouping responses into Promoters (9-10), Neutrals (7-8), and Detractors (6 or below). Schools can choose to display their NPS.

Social Credentialing ensures that yoga teacher training remains transparent, high-quality, and responsive to the needs of both trainees and the broader yoga community.

    Safety & Support

Creating a Safe & Supportive Space

Yoga is meant to be a place of trust, healing, and empowerment. However, power imbalances and ethical breaches can arise anywhere yoga is practiced.

Credential holders are responsible for upholding our Code of Conduct and Scope of Practice. This shared agreement creates yoga communities that are respectful and safe for everyone.

If you or someone you know has experienced physical, emotional, or financial harm, support is available.

Reporting Concerns & Filing a Claim

Yoga Alliance has an Accountability Policy and a Grievance Form to address concerns related to ethics, misconduct, and safety. We encourage anyone who has witnessed or experienced harm within the yoga community to review this process and take action when needed.
