Registered Yoga Teacher: The foundational 200-hour training that provides a strong base in yoga techniques, philosophy, anatomy, and ethics. Most new teachers begin with this credential.

A comprehensive 500-hour training for those who want to deepen their expertise in teaching methodology, sequencing, and advanced practices.


- The “E” stands for “experienced.” These credentials recognize teachers who have met additional teaching requirements beyond their RYT training, demonstrating a higher level of knowledge and expertise.
- There are two ways to earn an E-RYT 500 credential:
- Complete all 500 hours at a Registered Yoga School (RYS 500) and fulfill the teaching requirements.
- Complete an RYT 200, then earn an additional 300-hour training at an RYS 300, totaling 500 hours of training before applying for E-RYT 500.
- There are two ways to earn an E-RYT 500 credential:

Registered Children’s Yoga Teacher: Specialized training for teaching yoga to children, focusing on child development, creative movement, and safe instruction.

Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher: Designed for teachers who want to support expecting parents with training in prenatal anatomy, mindful movement, and breathwork for pregnancy and postpartum.

Here’s the process of becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance:
Complete Your Training
- Enroll in a Registered Yoga School (RYS) that aligns with your goals.
- Complete the required training hours.
Apply for Your Credential
- Submit your application with your training certificate.
- Meet any additional teaching requirements for your credential.
Maintain Your Credential
- Stay current with continuing education and membership renewal.
- Commit to Yoga Alliance’s Ethical Commitment, upholding integrity and respect in yoga teaching.
