Tamsin Sheehy
Owner, teacher & co-creator of the Teacher Training Course
Tamsin aspires to hold a sacred space in all her classes. She teaches through intuition, drawing on her various trainings and self practice. Hands-on adjustments, creative sequencing and meditative music combine to take students deeper into developing a relationship with their own bodies. Each posture can be likened to a colour, draw them together in specific sequences and each class becomes a different picture, a unique experience, a tool to take one deeper into one’s own consciousness.
After a 4 year dedicated practice in Ashtanga Vinyasa and Iyengar yoga, Tamsin completed her first 200hr Teachers Training with Australian based ‘Yogarts’ in Bali, with principle teachers Louisa Sears and Lance Schuler in 2004. She followed this with a 2 year part-time Teachers Training in the Satyananda and Bihar lineage with Carly Louw at ‘Yoga Connection’ in Pretoria. After 2 months of Sivanada yoga in India, Tamsin decided to settle permanently in Cape Town to share and learn from the yoga community here. Blessed by the opportunity to study a philosophy rich teachers training under Shimon Ben Avi in the Ashtanga yoga style in 2009, Tamsin continues to learn from teachers that inspire her both locally and internationally.
The art of lymphology, yoga and a balanced living practice drive Tamsin to run regular revitalization courses and workshops helping others to find their own balance and vitality.
Opening ‘The Shala’ with Mariah, and seeing their shared dream manifest, has been the greatest joy and inspiration of her professional life. Together with the team of teachers at The Shala they continue to create yoga in the modern world. Yoga comes from an ancient lineage yet it is also ever evolving and changing and The Shala is a space that looks to continue to innovate.
