Millions of Americans have embraced the path of yoga for its mental, spiritual and health benefits. As yoga has entered the mainstream, increased scrutiny has developed from regulators and from voices within our community. Leaders are taking a step back and assessing whether the yoga community is able to self-govern, maintain standards, business ethics, and enforcement and whether new initiatives are needed to keep up with the explosive growth of the movement. We all have a stake in these issues.

If you are a yoga teacher, you inspire students and spread the yoga movement every day. Yoga teachers understand the benefits of yoga and the pressing needs of our society. At Yoga Alliance, we believe that the ancient practice is not just a market trend or industry but a social movement. And you are its leaders. Essentially, Yoga Alliance offers a common space for teachers and schools who share this belief, which has been our fundamental appeal since our founding in 1999. If these issues matter to you, we invite you to participate.
At the conference, we’d like to gather your opinions through community forums about issues important to the yoga community. By bringing your good will and creativity to these discussions you will be working with Yoga Alliance staff and board to create programs that meet our common needs. The four community forums are designed to be an opportunity for yoga teachers to discuss pressing issues facing our community and create constructive advice for the future. The tentative topics for discussion are Yoga Standards, Distance Learning, Continuing Education Requirements and State Regulation.
You don’t have to wait to share your thoughts on these important matters. We recently announced the YA+ Community, an online home for RYTs to connect with fellow yoga teachers and make a lasting contribution to the future of yoga. The conversations started in the online forums will lead to the real life discussions at the conference. We will even finalize the topics of the forums based on your feedback online.
We welcome your ideas and creativity to the table. We hope you will join us and share your voice for the future of yoga. The ripple effects from this event will affect our community for a long time to come.
